Though it was recorded in 1995, Rain Without End was only finally released in 1997. This is the only October Tide release with Jonas Renkse on vocals. Keep your eye on the sky over the next couple of days, as the Las Vegas Valley has a chance this weekend to break its record 200 days-and-counting streak without measurable rain. Rain Without End. October Tide – A Thin Shell Review. With riffs that drag your emotions around and passive drums that suit the slow riffs. The genre film as a reflection of society, it has become almost a common place, a recipe recovered a little everywhere to create metaphors spun more-or-less successful on just about everything and anything. Death & Doom Metal. Without additional spectrum, network operators like Rain will therefore have to spend a lot of money on new sites. One of the strongest riffs I've heard to open a doom metal album ever, and once it hits its Paradise Lost/Metallica-spin in the verse, Renkse unleashes the throat. Jonas has done it again, but sadly this was the last time he would ever preform harsh vocals again. It features fantastic bands like Enshine, Ocean of Grief, Lying Figures and more. Violins and keyboards are used sparingly, enhancing the euphonious and bleak melodies that dominate the release. October Tide give a decent performance throughout, but again, the similarities often detract from my overall opinion of this full-length. Indeed, the album certainly lives up to expectations of a steadfast Katatonia fan, especially if that fan prefers Brave Murder Day to the rest of the Katatonia catalogue. Least of which is not "12 Days of Rain", which opens in a grandiose, slow waterfall of stinging tears, a tale of hope and renewal. They compose instrumental guitar-and-bass music based on abstract paintings. There is something about it that I find so oddly mellowing and therapeutic; I think of it as being the audial equivalent of waking up in a cozy warm bed on a bleak rainy morning. In a sense, what one finds on Rain Without End is a more coherent version of what Katatonia should have been, particularly as it relates to the more focused songwriting. "Infinite Submission" brings me straight back to attrition and awareness, with more sparse melodies that shiver below Renkse's crumbling throat. Highlight: All Painted Cold. Indeed, the album certainly lives up to expectations of a steadfast Katatonia fan, especially if that fan prefers Brave Murder Day to the rest of the Katatonia catalogue. Rain Without End makes instrumental guitar music with bass-guitar-driven rhythms. "Losing Tomorrow" is a brief track which diverts towards some echoing ambience, acoustics, and samples over which Renkse gives a clean, gothic performance not unlike what Katatonia were up to at the time, or Mattias Lodmalm and his Sundown/Cemetery. Highlights; Ephemeral and Losing Tomorrow which allows us a closer look at Jonas' awe inspiring clean vocals that add a certain quality of beauty, elegance and pleasantness. The character of the riffs are actually somewhat reminiscent of the idiomatic Iron Maiden influence that was also incorporated by In Flames, though coming in a slower and more minimalist package. I highly recommend it to those who enjoy the modern, doomy, melo-death sound of bands like Daylight Dies, Insomnium, and Ghost Brigade. Yeah, it's shit weather outside and you're going to have to get up to go to work, but at least you have a few moments just to relax and dose off. But honestly, how could this be improved on? Only on the slower and ill-fated sounding sections of 'Blue Gallery' or the funereal 'Infinite Submission' do the mysterious lyrics he bellows truly affect the mood of the music. As touched upon before, October Tide create picturesque sounds using acoustics and harmonious guitars which play in tangent, all adding up to a beautiful blend of atmospheric masterpieces. Katatonia has been my favorite band for quite some time now. Rain without end I eat the breath Your flesh brings life I'm going to see I will never be clean again I fell asleep at the gate Tonight I feel that demon's hand Your blood that drains my head I eat the breath Your flesh brings me life I will never be clean again It's like burning myself real Genres: Death Doom Metal. The rain was: The rain was: burbling (gurgling) into the drains. buzzing incessantly with noise ... At the end of the paragraph, try to write something about the sun coming out. Personally I like both albums for different reasons and and It would be silly to suggest that there arenât any musical similarities to be found here. Appropriately enough, I first discovered this album on a rainy day, many years ago. In my book Rain Without End is one of the best albums I've heard along with Anahtema's Judgement, Katatonia's Brave Murder Day and Opeth's My Arms Your Hearse and many other. That said, the bulk of the music is quite strong and still manages to convey a sombre feeling, despite these shortcomings. Between 1994 and 95, Jonas Renkse and Anders Nyström went separate ways. The ambient breaks later in the song are breathtaking, and I almost wish these guys would score something using similar music one day. I hate to harp on about this issue, but it is important. 1. There are acoustic passages, violins and keyboards popping up, but theyâre all used in moderation and therefore are more of an addition to the riff driven approach Frederik Norrman goes for. Fans of old Katatonia, and death/doom in general, will not be disappointed. A perfectly miserable atmosphere for such bleak music. Quiet ambient track 'Losing Tomorrow', however, is a different case. Rain Without End. There's at least one thing common with each one of them, there's no such thing as a dull moment found in them. It adds depth, enhances creativity and packs a punch. The first segment of "Sightless" is much like what Queensryche would have sounded in 1988 had they been fronted by Swanö and not Geoff Tate, though it soon eschews any of its graceful fluff for a somber, drowning hymn of brute chords. If you enjoy Katatonia, Opeth, Cemetery, Lake of Tears, early-t0-mid 90s Paradise Lost, or later Tiamat, and have somehow not heard this band...well, those are your marching orders. Iâve never been fond of that, but considering its length Iâd be lying if I found it a deal breaker.
